Agape Center

The Agape Center Inc. is a God-directed outreach ministry. They provide many services including food, clothing and household needs along with financial assistance for emergency needs, such as funds for utility bills, rent and medical needs. Agape also provides emotional support through its mentoring program and offers a course to help their clients get out of poverty.

Bedford Ride
The Mission of Bedford Ride is to improve the quality of life for Bedford County citizens by providing better access to non-emergency medical services (non-Medicaid). Volunteers provide disabled, elderly, and low income people in our communities with easy and affordable transportation.

YMCA Group

The YMCA GROUP consists of 2 separate charities that have partnered together — the Franklin County Family YMCA – Smith Mountain Lake and the SML Marine Volunteer Fire & Rescue. Franklin County YMCA provides opportunities for families and individuals to improve their health and well-being through a variety of programs, including its second-grade learn-to-swim program, Parkinson’s relief program, multiple summer camps for youth, Arthritis relief classes, its preschool program for working parents, and youth mentoring. SML Marine Fire Rescue provides 24/7 emergency services on the waters of SML. They respond to calls for assistance with boating accidents, alarms, and hazardous materials, they assist with on-water community events, and provide water safety education.

Helping Hands of Franklin County
Helping Hands of Franklin County’s mission is to provide financial assistance to help the emergency needs of the citizens of Franklin County. Typical emergency needs include electric bill termination or overdue notices, rent or mortgage issues, heating fuel, prescription medication and other emergency needs. In addition to emergency financial assistance they provide budget counseling to their clients and referrals to other appropriate agencies. Their volunteers provide this assistance with care and dignity to each of their clients.

Free Clinic of Franklin County
The Free Clinic of Franklin County at Bernard Healthcare Center provides primary health care to adults who are uninsured and whose income falls below 300% of the federal poverty guidelines. FCFC offers a robust range of services including the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness, physical examinations, laboratory testing, in-house pharmacy services, mental health counseling, and referrals to specialists. In 2025, FCFC staff and volunteers provided nearly 1,000 patient visits and 2,372 prescription medications valued at $578,768, all at little or no cost to the patient. Without the healthcare safety net that the FCFC provides, the 7.19% of Franklin County residents who are uninsured would not be able to access quality primary care and medications affordably.

SML Good Neighbors

SML Good Neighbors is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in Moneta, Virginia. The organization, founded in 2007, provides academic, enrichment and nutritional programs, free of cost, to students in rising 1st – 6th grades through the summer enrichment day camps, the weekend bag program, and student enrichment the arts programs. They also provide access to hotspots from US Cellular, scholarships to high school seniors in Franklin and Bedford County, Virginia; and leadership development internships to college students from around the globe. Their mission is to develop good neighbors skills and values in children through programs that nourish, educate and support them while providing life-changing experiences for college students through leadership development internships.

Tackfully Teamed Riding Academy
The Tackfully Teamed Riding Academy is a therapeutic riding center in Henry, Virginia. Its mission is to provide therapeutic horseback riding and other activities to persons with disabilities, giving them an opportunity to improve their physical, mental, emotional and social lives. Therapeutic riding offers children and adults with disabilities a chance to enjoy an “able body activity,” reaching achievements in ways they thought were impossible.
