Homes to Tour: 8 total, 5 in Franklin County, 1 in Bedford, 2 in Pittsylvania.

Only tour in the nation where all homes can be reached by car or by boat. Some 1200 volunteers help stage the event each year.
Tickets: $20 in advance, $25 on Home Tour weekend, will go on sale at the SML Visitor Center and several lake-area retailers beginning July 15—see locations listing at smlcharityhometour.com. Tickets w ill also be available on line using PayPal, and can be purchased at the homes on Tour days. Each ticket entitles holder to a single admittance to each of eight homes.
Each of 8 participating charities receives a share of the proceeds, which come from sponsorships as well as ticket sales. Participating charitable organizations qualify by delivering services to needy recipients in the Smith Mountain Lake area. In its 21 year history, the Tour has provided over $3 million to charity operations.

Conditions: Tour operates rain or shine; No children under 12, no babies in arms or carriers permitted. Homes are not handicap accessible, though special parking for those with mobility issues is available at most. Access from waterfront can sometimes require a steep climb, sometimes without railings. No photos, please.
Smith Mountain Lake: Over 500 miles of shoreline, 22,000 acres of water, hundreds of converging rivers, creeks and coves. Scenic shorelines range from manicured lakefront lawns to steep bluffs, breathtaking views of Smith Mountain and other surrounding peaks.
