Home Tour Charity Lottery Scheduled for January 26
The 2012 Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour has announced the lottery to select eight area charities to participate in the 2012 Tour, scheduled for Columbus Day Weekend, October 5-7. The drawing will be held on January 26, 2:00 p.m., at Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta.
“This will be the second year that a drawing has been used to select the participating charities from among qualified applicants,” noted Rosemary Drennen, Tour VP for Charities & Sponsorship.
“After careful review, the Selection Committee has identified 13 qualified charities from among the applications received,” Drennen continued. “The Committee very carefully screened the applications using the guidelines set forth in the application.”
Once again in 2012, SML business and community leaders will draw eight charity names. Two alternates will also be selected should, for any reason, one of the primary charities decide not to, or become unable to, participate.
“Discussions with the owners of several lovely lakefront homes are already underway,” Drennen said, “and training of representatives of the participating charities for their work on sponsorship, recruiting of volunteers to help host homes, and other administrative tasks will soon begin. Getting ready for the Tour is a year-round proposition,” she added.
Area media and the general public are encouraged to attend the lottery drawing. Several Tour officials will be on hand to talk about developing plans for the 2012 event.
