At a press conference held on January 27th, a lottery drawing was used to select eight primary charities and two alternates. The eight charities chosen to participate in the 2011 Tour are:

The Bedford County alternate charity is The Agape Center and the Franklin County alternate is Children's Advocacy Programs of the Blue Ridge. They will participate should any of the primary eight drop out for any reason.

To be eligible, charities had to submit an application which detailed the services they provide to the Smith Mountain Lake area and confirmed their willingness to fulfill several participation obligations. Members of the Charity Selection Committee carefully reviewed those applications to determine which charities would be eligible.
